Conservation Fee The conservation fee is pledged to conservation The Olifants river, being a most beautiful valley in South Africa, has a charm all of its own. However, for the splendour of this piece of paradise, in which The Baths is situated, to be enjoyed by generations to come, it is important to find ways to protect and conserve the beauty that surrounds us. The idea of implementing a conservation fee is to contribute to the financing of worthwhile conservation projects that need to be undertaken at The Baths. Aims 1. Upkeep of the hiking trails 2. Preservation of the Rock Art Sites to enhance our cultural heritage 3. Eradication of alien vegetation for the benefit of the environment 4. Enhancement of the indigenous natural fauna and flora 5. Beautify the gardens 6. Improvements to the roads to eradicate erosion 7. Erect bird hides 8. Establish picnic sites 9. Renovate Historic buildings – water mill 10. Improvements to the ablutions 11. Education of the local community – guides, inventories (alien vegetation, bird life, insect life, animals etc) – BEE 12. Youth outreach programmes 13. Eco-tourism – dams for patrons to enjoy gentle water sports – rowing, canoeing, birding. 14. The ultimate goal is to strive for conservancy status.
